I Don't Care What You're Accused Of …
Southwest Chicago Criminal Defense Lawyer
My professional advice as a criminal defense lawyer: If you are caught up in the criminal justice system, say absolutely nothing except your name, Social Security number if you have one, date of birth, address and "I want to call a criminal defense lawyer."
If it's a DUI or drunk driving arrest, do not take a field sobriety test; do not take a breathalyzer test.
Do not talk to the police. Do not make a confession. Cooperate and show respect, because the cops are people of authority. But do not make admissions or confessions or help them build a criminal case against you.
Police officers might lie. They may tell you, "It's not a big deal, just tell us what happened and we'll let you go." Do not believe this. Cooperate, remain silent except to repeat your request to talk to a lawyer and ask for necessities like bathroom breaks and food and drink.
It is very easy to be intimidated by police power, especially during a police interrogation. Even so, one way for you to help your criminal defense lawyer get you out of trouble is to keep quiet until you have talked to a criminal defense attorney. Your lawyer can advise you what to do next.
I don't care what you're accused of doing. I care about keeping the cops and prosecutors in line and fighting for a not-guilty verdict or acceptable plea bargain.
