Weapons Charges

Don't conceal and carry in Chicago.
If you get busted — get a good gun charges defense lawyer.

Illinois and Cook County are tough places to live as a gun owner. The state significantly restricts gun owners' freedoms, and Cook County places even more limitations on gun owners' ability to transport their weapons.

Criminal charges involving possession or transportation of guns and other weapons are common in and around Chicago. If a gun or other banned weapon is used to commit a crime, the prosecutor will often add weapons charges to the other charges.

If you are caught owning, transporting or carrying a gun or other weapon that you are not supposed to have — contact me immediately. Gun charges can be successfully fought, but the longer you wait to hire a defense lawyer, the harder it gets.

I have more than 25 years of legal experience, and I have practiced criminal law on both sides of the fence. I worked for three years as a prosecuting attorney before I opened my private criminal defense practice in 1994.

How To Beat Illegal Gun Charges

It is extremely difficult to beat gun charges if the case ends up in court in front of a jury. Gun charges have to be fought from the very start. If I'm going to be successful, I have to get started as soon as possible.

Beating gun charges means putting the actions of the police under a microscope, checking high and low for procedural and constitutional errors and showing to the judge or jury the problems with the prosecution's case:

  • Where did the police find the weapon?
  • Did they have probable cause to search the place where the weapon was found?
  • Did they have good reason to believe the weapon was yours?

These are a few of the critically important questions that I have to find answers to, if I am going to successfully defend you against charges of violating firearms and weapons laws.

I don't care what you're accused of doing. I care about keeping the cops and prosecutors in line and fighting for a not-guilty verdict or acceptable plea bargain.

If you are under investigation or have been arrested on an illegal weapons charge:

  • Don't say anything to the cops except your name, Social Security number if you have one, date of birth, address, and "I want to call a criminal defense lawyer."
  • Other than keeping quiet, cooperate with the cops.
  • Contact a criminal defense lawyer immediately for help.
